Continuing Education
CEU Education
Continuing education is critical to the ongoing success of the practicing interior designer. With the ever-changing application of technology and the introduction of new product standards and specifications, interior designers must constantly seek to gain additional knowledge. Many of the states or provinces that have laws regulating the practice of interior design and/or the use of a title require continuing education as a condition of renewal. ASID sponsors a wide range of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in varying lengths and topics, all of which are evaluated in accordance with strict IDCEC Guidelines (The Interior Design Continuing Education Council). You do not have to be an ASID member to receive CEU credit for these courses.

To prepare for the exam the Washington politan Chapter of ASID offers Technical Review Advancement Course (TRAC) and the STEP Workshop. The study course is designed to provide participants the opportunity to review technical data, home assignments and practice exams in an interactive environment affording designers the opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Through this process, designers can analyze their own skills to determine which areas may require further preparation.

ASID OC's efforts to help the NCIDQ Candidate
STEP ONE: In an effort to assist all candidates with their preparation for this exam, the ASID Orange County Office facilitated a 35-minute presentation and 30-minute question-and-answer session to help candidates gain comfort and confidence with their understanding of this exam and how to prepare for it!
The presenter for this event, Jan Bast, was eminently qualified to address our NCIDQ questions and concerns. She is a professional member of ASID, IIDA and the Interior Designers Educators Council. Jan served as President of NCIDQ, is an ASID Fellow, an Educator, a Practitioner, with 15 years of experience working on the NCIDQ Examination Committee.
Jan helped to dispel the most commonly held misperceptions about the exam. To illustrate this, the following facts are highlighted:
The NCIDQ is an entry-level examination geared toward practitioners with experience in the field.
The exam tests for minimum competency in interior design, regardless of an individual’s specialization (residential or commercial).
The pass rates range from 60 percent to 80 percent, depending on the section.
