A Message From Our President
Dear Members,
I am truly excited to serve as President of ASID Orange County for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. It is a great time to be a leader in the design industry, as the economy is beginning to rebound and there are lots of new opportunities being presented in the field of design.
Over the last several months, the new leadership team has been planning ways to create more value for our membership. As one of the nation’s largest chapters, ASID Orange County is in the midst of a transition, as we enter year two of our three year strategic plan. Our national leadership team has shared with us all the ways in which they provide support and growth opportunities. It is up to us on the local level to embrace what is being offered and build on it in innovative ways.
During my term as President, I strive to bring together the different facets of our membership. We have many people who continue to work diligently to serve the membership in exciting, new ways. We also have long term members, some who have been past leaders, who are a wealth of knowledge and experience in the design community. Add to that a constant flow of new members, many of whom are Students and Industry Partners. How can we best engage all members to achieve our chapter’s overall vision of “Reconnecting Past, Present and Future”? This is a question we strive to answer in the coming year.
Some of the overarching goals for our chapter include demonstrating the value of membership, building members’ confidence in the leadership team, regaining financial stability and focusing on programs that help members generate business. We will continue to provide valuable programs at our monthly general meetings that provide business and industry education, networking opportunities and social interaction. We will also continue our successful Lunch and Learn programs, our Emerging Professionals event series, our Student Career Day and our popular annual Tradeshow. In addition, we are committed to offering new events to our members that will also add to the financial stability of our chapter. For example, we are launching a new Holiday Tabletop event that will highlight eight talented Interior Designers, a valued Industry Partner and a Media Partner. We are working closely with the Laguna Design Center, who hosts our Student Career Day, to discover new ways to build synergy that helps our members and Industry Partners alike. These are just a few of the things that the leadership team is working on to bring value to the membership. We are open to your creative ideas and feedback as we embark on this year of possibilities.
