A Message From Our President
What an exciting year we have ahead!
I am so very honored and privileged to be serving as the ASID Orange County Chapter President for the 2009/2010 term. Inclusivity, professionalism, and increased networking opportunities are all action words to describe my goals for the upcoming term. The phrase “getting back to basics” will also apply as we continue to strengthen our bonds within the design community, unveiling new relationships with other professional organizations. As many of you may be aware, I have literally grown up within the interior design industry, with my mother and best friend serving as the ASID Orange County Chapter President back in the early 90’s. My childhood memories are filled with visits to her office and sitting at the drafting table. Fast forward a bit… I received my undergraduate degree from the USC Marshall School of Business. During my senior year of college in the entrepreneur program, I found myself writing my business plan on seniors aging in place, and fell in love with design… I continued my education at UCLA and found myself working at my mother’s design firm as a librarian, growing and learning the intricacies of the business, until ultimately formulating a partnership at Ziccardi Designs. I share this story because each one of us has a path which has led us to being a designer – for some of us, this is a second career, for others, it is something they always knew they wanted to do from childhood. Regardless of how we all became designers, we all have something in common… a deep respect for the industry and a desire to belong to a society which fosters professionalism, education, and increased experiences for its membership. I am especially appreciative of our volunteer leadership within the organization, without whom we would not be able to provide so many fantastic opportunities. I look forward to serving as their biggest cheerleader. 2010 will be an exciting year for both our local chapter as well as the National Chapter of ASID as we will be celebrating our 35th Anniversary! I am excited about this new beginning and anticipate a year filled with wonderful surprises, adventure and success for our chapter!
